Paciencia

This past Sunday, a wonderful seminarian told me one of the key words that they repeat at this particular seminary: paciencia.

Patience: that virtue your mom always reminds you exists whenever you want to get what you want "right now!"  Patience, that virtue that I imagine so many spiritual directors exercise. Patience.

God, may I persevere in patience. Patience, and perhaps even in simple Serenity to accept the things I cannot currently change.

When governments fail people, when systems and controls block what seems to be so good, when your building has been lacking windows for months, when this little American girl wants her instant gratification, all I can ever do is pray, pray, pray.

Prayer: the conversation of the faithful.  How helpless one can feel when that is the only option left, and how much stronger in faith can we become from this!  But it is the only option; it is what we are called to do.  It is not the last resort; it must be the first!

Paciencia, paciencia, paciencia. Fe, fe, fe.
